5 metatarsal healing time – it’s already been 2 months!!

End of Dec 05 I accidentally “kicked” the couch while walking next to it. About a third of my foot turned black and blue around the area of my little toe and it was painful. A week later I went to the doctor for an x-ray and the doctor confirmed that I fractured my fifth metatarsal right where it meets the little toe and that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Weight-bear as tolerated. It’s been 8 weeks now and I still have discomfort. I have been very careful because I was warned not to re-injure it while it is healing. I’m careful when I walk because I know if I tip slightly or step on an uneven surface or a pebble, it will really hurt. I am in my early 40s and not overweight. I notice when I carry extra weight for a short period of time, my year old granddaughter, my foot will hurt more for several days, after that, it reverts back to the regular ache. The foot area right where my little toe meets it is still a little swollen and a little red too. Sometimes, it will just start hurting for no apparent reason. Is this to be expected? Should I get another x-ray and possibly see a specialist? I don’t want this to turn into a chronic condition – that’s my big concern.

Have you seen a podiatrist? If not then I recommend you do so.
