achilles heel tendenitis

(4 discussions)

I’ve had achilles heel tedenitis since June of 2010.
I have done stretching exercises, had therapy and am stillin pain.
The back and side of my heel is swollen and I find wearing shoes withut a heel s more comfortable.
The podiatrist said it takes time. But seven months seems like an eternity, expecially when the pain can be unbearable at times. Can you suggest an alternative therapy or am I being impatient with the healing process.
I also had a spur on the bottom of the heel, but that seems to be better.
Thank you

Dear Catherine, That must be a very miserable condition. I know a little about the achilles tendon. It is influenced a great deal by the gait and alignment of your pelvis and lower extremity. I am wondering, have you tried checking into a gait analysis? Many PTs and Chiropractors can do this for you and it will shed a lot of light into your body as a whole. Also, what is the condition of the heel spur? Has it grown? When is the last time you had it X-rayed? Protecting from heel striking a spur is a common reason of altered gait and irritation to the achilles tendon. As for the tendon itself, rest and ice are desired in the early stages, but your condition seems to be more of a chronic condition. Try a massage to the lower extremity and tell the masseuse to do transverse friction on the tendon. Good Luck!

My aunt, 75 years old, has been suffering with severe pain in her left heel. She basically is in good health. This started approx. 6 weeks ago, for no apparent reason. Her doctor said she had flat feet and told her to get heel inserts for her shoes.. It has not helped at all. Early AM there is little discomfort-however, as she progresses thru her day the heel becomes inflamed, and the top of her foot and ankle become discolored and she is in severe pain. She has an appointment with a foot doctor(two weeks away) any suggestions on what this is and how to proceed? I am a strong advocate of chiropractic care-could this be helped by an adjustment?

Hi Doctor, My name is Kara. I am alittle young but I need some answers. When I was in six grade my left heel started to hurt real bad. I kept telling my mom this until she took me to the doctors to try and help me. Well it turns out I have Seevers disease and for about 6 months I had to wear an orthapedic boot and go to physical thearpy. Now I am doing nothing for it and every time I get active in sports it really hurts. I wanted to know if you could help me alittle bit or recomend anything. Thanks, Kara
