achilles tendon rupture repair

I have a question that appears to be the opposite of J. Giles.
I had surgery for a ruptured tendon, and the operating surgeon moved.
I am at 10 weeks recovery now, and the new doctor has suggested that I can do light jogging, squats, and basically anything I want.
My foot is still swollen, which he says is normal.
I have not even been given any exercises for physical therapy yet.
Should I go back to running so quickly, or is it much too soon? Are there exercises I need to do first?
I play rugby and want to get back to the game, but I am very wary of reinjury–I can’t go through the surgery again! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a question regarding how soon should surgery happen to repair a ruptured achilles tendon? I ruptured mine on Friday, March 8, 2012 and am not scheduled to see the orthopedic fellow until Tuesday, March 12th and I am worried that I am missing a window of repair opportunity which would maximize healing possiblities, etc. Or is this no big deal? Thank you for your help and I understand your disclaimers and abide by them. Sincerely, Dr. Brown
