ACL/MCL/Meniscus Tear

(3 discussions)

My 16-year old daughter recently injured her knee with an ACL tear, a partial MCL tear and a possible Meniscus tear.
She is an active young lady in several sports, but her main sport interest is Softball.
Her doctor has her in an X2K brace at this time.
This being her Junior year of High School, she is reluctent to have surgery at this time with a 6 month rehab period and miss what she considers her most important year for recruiting purposes.
What, in your opinion, is the risk she would be taking in regards to the knee in participating in the softball season, then having the surgery with almost a year of recovery and rehab?

Hello, I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus Thanksgiving Day 2012. I’m very glad that I had my surgery. Sure my knee still hurts every once in awhile but that is to expected with a major knee surgery. I was fine about 6 months after the surgery. If you have any more questions let me know.

my daughter tore her acl, mcl completely ,last may. She is a freshmen in college and is playing lacrosse on a very competitive level. She was at practice doing some defensive drills and felt her knee shift and she went down. she can walk fine but the knee is swollena and sore.will she be able to return to the sport at this level and if so should she feel pain and discomfort from a healed knee.she is seeing her dr in a couple of days and has not done any increased activity with the knee until she sees her dr. What do you advise. if it is the mcl, how long is the recovery period. can surgery be done on the mcl and is it recommended. she tends to think it is her mcl and the acl is still in place. when they replaced the acl they used a ligament from someone else not her leg. please advisethank youpat

I tore my acl and meniscus about 1 month ago, and I got my surgery about a couple of weeks ago and I wear a straight leg brace and I take it off at night so I can sleep better. I was wondering will that hurt anything?
