ankle arthroscopy/external fixator

I have had 3ankle scopes,synevectomy,torn anterior tiabilis,external fixator & when removed fractured tibia twice in 8mos requiring casting for months & now atrophied achilles/gastroc etc. Now I have osteoarthristis & they suggest fusion.Any other suggestions or similiar experiences ??

    You are certainly on the extreme end of ankle problems. An ankle fusion would be a strong possibility. If you are ot sure or do not understand the post op follow up, you should write down your questions and ask away. I offer patients a brace when a fusion is not an option. An example is a fixed Richie type ankle brace. This would lock the ankle so no motion occurs. If one finds wearing a brace objectionable, then so be it and proceed with surgery.
