Avascular Necrosis of sesamoid bone

I was diagnosed with a fractured sesamoid about two months ago. I just got back from the Podiatrist’s office to check on my progress after being on crutches and in a walking cast. He told me that he believes it may be healing but shows signs of Avascular Necrosis (X-ray showed that the bone is somewhat cloudy, but darker than before and not white like my other sesamoid). There is much less pain than 6 weeks ago and more mobility of my big toe. He wants me to wait another six weeks and see if the bone “rebounds” and to check on the pain. What is the likelyhood of a sesamoid rebounding from Avascular Necrosis? Is it OK for me to begin wearing tennis shoes ocasionally and doing some activities such as an eliptical machine that has no impact or even golf if I’m careful? I’m starting to gain weight because of my lack of excercise but don’t want to hurt my chances of the sesamoid rebounding if it’s possible. Please let me know what you think. Thanks very much, Brandon
