back pain (upper left side)

I have pain in my upper back on the left side. The pain increases as I breath in. The pain is quite sharp. In certain positions it doesn’t hurt to breath, but in most it does. Can you please tell me what this could be. Thank you

pain is back and front do to a horse kicking me. it happened last friday. it is somewhat better, however I have been able to sleep only on left side or sitting up. using heating pad and hot showers. I am going to try so soak in tub now that the pain is not so bad.

I’m not a doctor. I’m in no way medically knowledgeable beyond common sense. What I do have is experience. Due to various forms of racing my ribs have been in and out more times than I can count. Like the doc said in a previous post, it feels like a hot poker about the size of a quarter. It hurts to take deep breaths and pain can be felt on the front, the back or both. Sleep is problematic at best when you have dislocations. I am 32 years old and usually pop them back in place myself. The pain usually goes away in about a week or so once they’re back in position. I would suggest, however, if you are not certain what exactly is the problem, are advanced in age or just have an aversion to sever pain when they get put back in that you consult a physician.

I have pain on the left side of my back. It is directly under my arm but slightly towards my back, around the heart area. It pains when I sleep and also when I take a deep breath. I have felt this pain for a long time now. Can you please let me know as to why this could be happening.

for the past week, I have had a similar feeling. it is a pain just to the left of my spine between my shoulder blades. when I inhale, I feel a sharp pain in that location. it also appears when I lay down or sit back into a chair. I have a lipoma in that area also. I wasn’t sure if that caused the pain, but the pain feels deeper than my skin – more like the inside surface of my ribs. I went to the doctor and he diagnosed it as the lipoma pressing against a nerve…though when he pressed on the lipoma, I didn’t feel the pain, so i’m skeptical. he referred me to a surgeon to get the lipoma removed. after a week, the pain is staring to dissapate. could it have been a rib out of place that worked it’s way back into place?

i get occasional pains on the left side of my upper arm and on the left side of my neck at the back. It usualy happens when I sleep on as high pillow or sleep on my left side. Recently twice my complete left arm became dead as if it is a vegetable. I got it back after about 1 minute. and everything was ok. What is this problem please guide me.

I have a Pain that is on my left side by or on my ribcage, and also hurts when I sleep. It is directly to the left of my heart area, on the side. I also hurt swhen I inhale.

I am fifteen years old and I am experiencing pains in my upper back and the pain gets worse when I take a deep breath or bend down. I have scoliosis and I was wondering if it is linked to this. Before experiencing this pain, I ran a lot for my physical health class. The day I experienced this pain, I was wearing something thin and it made my back feel cold and exposed. Any explanations as to why this is happening to me?

im 16 and pregnant and I just started to get this terrible pain in the upper leftside of my back it leads into the leftside of my chest and is scaring me because it feels like my heart is about to stop. when I take a deep breath it hurts really badand it comes a goes but it is a stabbing pain and I really have no clue what it can be.

With out doing an examination you can not be too sure, but it sounds like a rib out of place. The feeling would be off center of the spine usually around the scapula. It feels like a hot poker being stuck in your back the size of a quater. It hurts usually when you take deep breaths, because as the ribs expand on the inhale the bone can not move the way it should.
