bicep tendon surgery (help)

(6 discussions)

In July I completly tore my bicep tendon from the elbow a week later I had surgery to repair and the doctor said I would be able to use my arm and start the process of rebuilding my strength. It has been 12 weeks now and after a month of rehab I am unable to pronate or supinate my arm an also have very much pain .the PT says there is nothing more they can do . after an Xray the doc says the two bones in the forarm have fused together. it is very frustrating, is there any one with any advice as the doc said that this is a rare condition but I think its BS .

I had surgery 5 weeks ago (reattach the distal tendon at the elbow) and have been in a rigid cast since then. I have one more week to go and the cast will be removed and I will start physio. My diagnosis was much the same as Brent Evans (see other post from earlier on this forum)…. I was told it was 6 weeks in a cast and then 6 weeks of physio before I could start doing ‘normal’ excercises…or using any real weights. The doc said he was confident that a full recovery and a return to full strength was possible. I am a very active outdoors person and am hoping to be fully active by the new years…which will be 4 months from the injury. I am going to do whatever it takes – physio, pins, gym, herbal remedies etc…. I can’t wait to get this cast off so at least the recovery process can begin.Feel free to contact me or follow up to see how the recovery is going

I saw your entry in orthoped.org, Ask the Physical Therapist website from some time ago. Your situation appeared to be somewhat similar to what I am dealing with right now. I am contemplating surgery on my right shoulder to alleviate bicep tendon problems that I have had continuously for the last couple of years. I will have my bicep tendon clipped and reattached using a bio screw into the top of my upper arm bone. I realize this is not your exact surgery but from your entry it appears to be a similar situation. If you have time to respond to me I would be interested to know if you had the bicep/ shoulder surgery and how it worked out for you. Did it alleviate your problems and are you better off now/ are you glad you had the surgery? Thanks for your consideration. My email address is:[email protected].

i too have not been able to supinate or pronate the hand, but not from the problem you have. I did mine by a fall and shattering the radial head bone in my elbow. after 4 months of physical therapy, I regained most of the strength, but nothing for the movement of the hand. I too have the two bones fused together after my first surgery. its been 8 months now since my fall and I’m scheduled for surgery to free up those two bones in the hopes that I will be able to use my hand again in about a week. my doctor also said that it is rare for the bones to fuse together, but it happens more than you’d think. esp. with hip operations. he told me that after this surgery, we will give me medication to prevent new bone from forming around the implant. I’m hoping to be able to turn my hand palm up and down again. hopefully, wont have to have a 3rd operation and that I will have success. so, hang in there. I’m sure that something can be done for you…….
