Hi, I am 26 aged young man. Unfortunately, I have bowlegs. Is there a possibility to correct them by daily fitness and how? Thank you for your help!

Nope…your stuck with em….bowleggedness can be a result of stresses placed on the bones while your growing, such as horseback riding…or it can be just the way your bones grow. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to re-mold the bone.

Due to the overwhelming number of requests for the exercise program, I will post the exercises here, please do not contact me by email, thanks. Also, if you follow the program, please post what results you obtained here on this forum. Below is an explanation of the exercise program. Follow it and I guarantee it will work. Good luck. It’s interesting that these exercises are not available elsewhere on the Web. In Japan, wherere 70% of people are bowlegged (due to their custom of sitting cross-legged), these exercises are fairly well known. The first thing you should do is to determine if you are really have bowlegs. Stand straight with your feet together. If your knees do not touch, then you are bowlegged. This means that the bone from your foot to your knee is not perpendicular to the ground, but bent outwards. Luckily, bowlegs can be corrected without surgery, by performing the following exercises. Exercise 1 The purpose of this exercise is to loosen the muscles that hold your leg bone in place, facilitating the correction of your bowlegs. Exercise 2: Stand about a foot away from a wall, and put your right hand against it. Raise your left foot with your left hand (by grabbing your ankle) until it touches your buttock. Hold your foot for 30 seconds. Now put your left hand against the wall, and raise your right leg, and hold for 30 seconds. You should do each leg twice. The purpose of this exercise is to loosen the thigh muscles. Exercise 3: Sit in a chair and place a fairly firm cushion vertically on your lap. Bend down slowly, folding the cushion, and rise back slowly to an upright sitting position. Repeat twenty times. The purpose of this exercise is to stretch your spine and strengthen your abdominal muscles. (Please don’t ask what this has to do with bowlegs–it will take forever to explain. 🙂 ) Exercise 4: Place a cushion between your thighs and squeeze the cushion firmly. Place your hands behind your head, and stand straight. Bend your knees slowly until your thighs are almost parallel to the ground, keeping your back straight. Rise back to the standing position. When performing this exercise, make sure that your weight is placed on your heels, and remember to squeeze the cushion firmly throughout the exercise. Repeat twenty times. The purpose of this exercise is to strengthen the muscles which will bring your knees together. All the exercises should take ten to fifteen minutes to complete. A mild form of bowlegs such as yours should take less than a month to correct, a more serious case will probably take upwards of three months. The gap between your knees does not go away gradually, but rather in 3/4 inch increments, so do not be discouraged if you see not any effect for a week or so, a little more exercise will bring about a sudden reduction in the gap. You will probably first see an effect after two weeks. I highly recommend that you measure the gap between your knees before you begin the exercise program and take occasional measurements so that you can monitor your progress. Once you correct your bowlegs, if you sit on the floor often (as most Japanese do), avoid sitting on the floor with your legs crossed, but rather sit with your legs straight out, and support your weight with your arms. If you have bad posture, you can correct this by standing against a wall for three minutes, three times a day. The key is to have faith that these exercises will work, and not give up. If you have any questions, don’t hesistate to ask. Good luck! Shin

Has anyone tried Shin Yamanaka’s exercise to correct bowlegs? Please detail your results. I tried it for a few weeks and I think it may have been getting better. Then I got lazy and I stopped. Unfortunately, I didn’t measure the before and after so I can only go by my instinct. But I do think it works, I just don’t do it consistently enough. I’m going to start up again. I just want to know other people who have done it and what they think of it. Thanks,Will

Hi, I know of an exercise program that can correct bowlegs. It takes 15 minutes a day, and two to three months. If you would like to learn more, please contact me by email. My email address is [email protected] other advantage of correcting bowlegs is that you can grow about an inch taller.

Actually, that is not true. There are numerous limb correction surgeries that can re-align the deformed limb. I’ve read lots of materials on this and plan to have this operation done. The only thing is that it costs a bundle, say about 30K to 70K. They also have limb lengthening operations. Google it and you’ll find a lot.
