broken ankle

(2 discussions)

I broke 3 bones in my ankle. One on each side and one in the back and put the tibia out of alignment. I had surgery right away and screws put in for repair. Surgery was succesful and after 7 weeks the cast was removed. I was told by surgeon to start walking with it using crutches which I have done for 12 days. I go back to see him in 6 weeks. My question is how long will it be for recovery.
I am unable to really put pressure on it as the pain is pretty bad and have swelling still. I am no spring chicken and use a walker instead of crutches most of the time. 65 years old. I do some exersises such as the alphabet one and bending the toes towards me. The specialist did not seem to think I needed physio.
I am anxious to get walking once again. thanks Nancy

i broke my ankle as well, playing soccer. No surgery though, I had broken my tib and two parts of my fib. I was in cast for 5 weeks, and now I got it removed in walking boot . He told me to walk with the crutches but in two days try without. the same day I did it without . terrible knee pain .. After you take your cast off, you have to wait another 6 weeks to heal perfectly . you can then go back to your normal activities. I am upset I lost all my muscle in my leg . I had calf muscles, and quad with hamstreing . two rips in my quad .. ( muscle ) all gone . .. it takes time, and thats the worst thing that could ever happen to an athlete – breaking an ankle . As for you, (15yr old ) I am 17 your luckier .. it is my senior year, soccer is done for me, so is track .. worst thing ever – senior year . well take care, and don’t push it … you’ll make it worse.
