Broken Arm

(5 discussions)

6 weeks ago I fell off some rollerblades and broke my arm in half. It was diagnosed as a both bones fracture and I had 2 plates put in my arm. An inconvenience as it was I was then told I would have to wear a plaster full arm cast which went from my knuckles to my armpit for 9 weeks. in two weeks I am going on a vacation and I want to swim but I wont be able to in this cast. is there anyway to have my cast taken of early or changed from plaster to one of those waterproof fiberglass ones? it needs to be changed anyway. it is smelly dirty and covered in signatures. any help will be appreciated.

Ouch! sounds like a bad break. I suppose your doctor could change it to a fiberglass one. because the main reason plaster is still used is because it molds much more to the limb and for more serious fractures it holds the bone in place tighter. your bones would have healed enough for a fiberglass cast now. get well soon

i have a broken humerous, but the fiberglass cast only covers the humerous. my arm below the elbow is not raised. it lies below my heart? is that ok? also, the dr. wants physical therapy 2 weeks after the break, is’nt that too soon? Thanksjim

i had to wear a plaster full arm cast after breaking my wrist a year ago. the reason they use plaster is to hold displaced fractures in place. was it a displaced fracture

my 15 year old broke her arm in two places and we have been given the option of a plaster cast for 2 months or surgery to put plates in. does anyone know the pros and cons of both procedures

hi. I’ve also broken my arm. rollerblades too!! lol. I even broke both the forearm bones in my left arm. my arm hasn’t really hurt that much and my cast isnt too bad (apart from the smell. lol.) but I did not have plates put in my arm. it was just set and casted in a full arm plaster cast. get well soon. btw. do you have any remedies for a smelly cast? my one smells really nasty
