broken arm through growth plate

(2 discussions)

My teenage son broke his radius through the growth plate near his wrist during football practice about 7 weeks ago.
His cast is now off and he lifted weights today.
He told me it hurt his arm a lot during power clean and push-press.
Is this a normal thing that will go away or should I call his doctor about it?

I’m not sure if your son should start very heavy lifting at this point. Tell him to get into GRADUALLY! And NO pain! It’s hard to hold athletes back…but if he continues to lift and have pain, he will be causing more damage than good.

If a young child breaks his arm through the growth plate can that have permanent damage to the growth of his arm?
