Broken fibula!

(3 discussions)

Hi,
2 weeks ago I fractured my fibula, alot of swelling and bruising and I was sent to ortho surgeon who put a boot like cast on leg. I have to go back august 23 for another x-ray my regular doc did more to to see it and it don’t look like its changed at all or healing any. After x-rays the 23 will he set it or anything what is the normal way to do these things and will I be put into a plaster cast for walking better.
I am going crazy just sitting with leg up all the time.

I can’t see your fibula or you for that matter. It is possible you will show some bone callus when you are seen next. The person to ask is who treated you. I recommend that you continue to elevate and rest your leg.

thanks for responding. I don’t think I can take this big bulky boot anymore . I am afraid when I do go they will put a plaster cast on and drive me even crazier .

Realistically, I think a plaster cast is heavier and more uncomfortable. A fiberglass cast (which is used much more often) would be lighter though. At least with the cast boot though, you can take it off for bathing. You really should discuss these concerns with your doctor
