broken fibula

(3 discussions)

I broke my fibula 2 days ago but thought it was just a sprained ankle until I went to the ER last night and found out it was broken.
I broke it just above my right ankle. Do you know how long it will take to heal?
I have it in a soft ski boot type cast right now. Thanks, chana

Bones take 6-8 weeks to heal, so be patient and let your body heal.

My son has a fibular fx. It is closed, he is in a plastic boot brace to just below the knee. He is WBAT. It has been 1 week since his injury. His POC is wear brace daily, elevate, and tx edema, F/U x 1month. Also is on vicodine and motrin as needed. Injury occurred in football. This is his junior year but he is 1st string varsity player. Our district games begin in 4 weeks. He is a quick healer, with outstanding health. What can we do to progress his healing? What are important goals to adress early in rehab? What are your suggestions for protective wear to increase support, stability and for protection?
