broken heel
broken heel, not needing pins was put in cast 4 and a 1/2 weeks ago in mid november. Fracture is a diagonal going from top of the back of the heel downwards. X-ray is a sharp line cutting right across on one profile, not sure of other profile. Cast has recently been cut slightly to releive build up of pressure. Is it possible for some types of broken to recover completely and regain their former mobility as with other bone breaks? Also as a carer what can be done for the releif of stabbing pains? Pains have subsided during the 4 1/2 weeks analgesic/ calmatives, valium and panadeine rapid have already been in use, but is there anything else?

If the fracture does not cross into a joint, there is greater likelihood of healing without a subsequent arthritis. I use a TENS or Galvanic stimulator for pain control on lots of patients. This cuts down on the need for pain medicine.
