Broken Pinky Toe

Five days ago I was bathing my dog and she jumped out of the tub and ran away and I ran after her and caught my pinky toe on the bathroom door. It was very painful and took a few days for the pain to subside at all. The inside of the toe was purple and the top of my toe and foot was blue and become swollen. The brusing has faded now but the swelling is still there. It hurts to put any weight on the foot and it’s very painfull to wear a shoe. The toe seems to be facing outward instead of straight up, but I can’t tell if that is only because of the swelling. The thing that is bothering me most is that when I try to pull my toes up towards me it won’t work. Instead my toes want to curl forward. It seems like I don’t have control of my arch. I don’t have insurance and I don’t want to pay simply for someone to put tape on my toe so I am wondering if these things are unusual and mean I should get it looked at.

I always say “To see is to know, not to see is to guess.” You will need to decide if you want to find out if your probably broken toe is healing correctly. If you believe all that would be done is taping the toe, then you will probably not justify seeing a podiatrist. I always feel that giving my patients information is a very important part of the visit in addition to the technical things I perform.
