broken tibia and fibia

(3 discussions)

Hello Doctor, my leg was driven over by a tow truck!! I have a broken tibia and fibia. I have a huge cast! I looked at the x rays with my orthopedic surgeon, doesn’t look like the bones are that well lined up to me.Will the body, in its healing process, move the bones closer together? Thanks,Todd

And at very small times wehn med’s work am able to walk are house just hopping or swaying from side to side with out any thing.. Mine was a Very bad Break, I now walk but leg is swelled all the time, hurts to stand on for more then 45 min. I can not walk very fast eeven with can’s, and find it hard to care very much..

I broke my Tibia and Fibia in a motorcycle accident Mar27, 2014. I had two plates and 19 screws implanted, been to Therapy 3 times a week since then. I went from crutches/with Airboot to cane with boot to now just the cane and will be off that in a week. I am 57 y.o. I feel like it is slow healing but I see others are taking longer. Sure, it swells up when on it for a long time and the ankle hurts and even when it doesn’t hurt, it feels like there is a hose clamp around it. All I can say is hang in there, get some PT if you can and keep exercising it. I hope mine ends up mostly normal. Dennis

I fractured my tibia and fibia in two places together with a momminuted fracure mid way down the lower leg. This earned me two plates and lot of screws and a real long titanium rod. It’s hurt like heck since the accident (June 6) and varies from not too bad to being hard to walk with crutches.
It’s only been 9 weeks and I’m on crutches. It’s getting better and will take time….exercise and movement are what’s necessary. The MD talks about a bone graft at the mid leg fracture point….thinking positive and hopefully that can be avoided…but whatever it takes to get back to full mobility.
Keep the faith and remember that there are always medical solutions to most situations.
