broken toe – big toe – left foot

i either broke or strained my toe.
I have it taped to the toe next to it with cotton in between.
I have no swelling or bruising – just paid at the top of my toe – at the joint where the toe meets the foot.
how long can I expect to continue to be in moderate pain?
