bruised rib

(5 discussions)

i am 29 years old and have been playing soccer for the last 4 years. I am an aggressive player but have never really had any injuries. last week I had a couple falls in a game but just kept playing, just like any other time. no injuries. well this last week my back has been bothering me in this one spot. it is sometimes a constant pain. I thought maybe it was from one day last week at work because I sat in a chair all day long. now I am thinking an injury from soccer. but why wouldn’t I get it when I got pushed or fell at a game? I got it checked out by a doctor and he was feeling my back and the only are it hurt was on the back of a rib bone?! it isn’t cracked, just maybe a bruise? is this really what it is? what can I do to take the pain away? it hurts when I drink with a straw, burp or sometimes other things. how long would it take to heal and what else could it be? any reason to worry? should I still be playing or should I take time off from soccer?

You are having a bruised rib, you must pull the muscle. Bruised rib is very painful, especially when trying to get in or out of bed. The pain medicine and time will heal it. It may take up to three months before you feel completely normal.Eric

I was kicked by a “national champion kick-boxer”. The assault involved several kicks, but the first one-right under my left armpit and alongside my ribcage still hurts- this was on Nov. 15, 2013 and it’s now March 7, 2014. He is charged, but it is classified as “domestic” only because I am female, so nothing will happen. My main concern is with that area where he kicked my left ribcage, b/c the police took me to the Emerg. that day, and nothing appeared broken. In early January, it still hurt to breathe or move or do anything, but I was feeling more pain on the right side. I got X-rayed again and found out that the front center of my chest was broken, just below my right breast; that, of course, hurts now, but knowing that is broken and causing pain makes me worry more about the left side of my ribs-they’re not shown to be broken, but they hurt more – so did he bruise my left side and cause it to hurt worse and for a longer time than his breaking of my front ribs?

I am 16 years old and I had gotten in a pretty bad car accident last weekend (2/6/04) and I think I bruised my ribs on either the airbag or the side door. When I went to the hospital right after the accident they x-rayed my chest along with other parts of my body but they didn’t find anything broken. They only took one picture of the front side of my chest but it hurts on the left. I don’t think I broke them, I think they’re bruised because they only hurt when I move extensivly. Baseball starts soon and I was wondering if there is anything I can do for them or about how long will it take them to naturally get better.
