Bruised sternum

(3 discussions)

About 4 weeks ago I was in the gym and decided to use a specific sit up machine that you lay on flat and after doing like 5 or 6 to show someone how to do it, I resumed my regular work out and a couple day’s later I woke up stiff and stretched and heard a kind of pop, like the sound when you crack your knuckles from my chest and later that day I started to feel a tightness in that area. After getting the nerve to see a doctor they said that they are sure thats what I did and that it would take a couple weeks to heal, to do warm compresses and take Ib profin.
Well the 2 weeks went buy with no discomfort, so I resumed regular activites, work involved with some heavy lifting. A couple day’s ago the pain and discomfort returned. Could I have re injured it? Thanks

I paddle with an outrigger team in Lake Havasu City Arizona. About 2 weeks ago, we were out practicing getting back into the boat after huling (turning over)….we had already paddled about 8 miles and my arms were really tired. I pulled myself out of the water, up onto the hull of the outrigger, my arms we to weak to hold me and I SLAMMED my entire chest onto the hull!!!! I has been KILLING me, there is no bruising…but everytime I paddle it hurts like nothing I’ve had before, if I just bend over it hurts, when I roll over in bed or onto my tummy it is excruciating… what can I do…could a hit like that have broken something even though I have no brusing??? Will it damage me to continue to paddle…usually when I pull a muscle in my back or shoulder I keep paddling and it finally goes away after about 4-6 weeks.

I’d sure like to see a reply to this. Sounds like me except a metal chair hit my sternum when I fell. It’s been almost two weeks and still hurts as bad as he’s saying.
