Bruised/Broken Rib
I’m a 49 year old female and a week ago I fell backwards off my porch 3ft off the ground and landed on my back.
When I tried to get up, there was a terrible burning pain in my left side.
I figured I pulled a muscle and used heat and Advil for the day after a hot shower.
The next day the pain was a little worse, but by Wednesday I was having a great deal of trouble getting around so I went to my Dr and had x-rays.
I have not heard back from him, so assumed they showed no breaks.
I steadily got worse and though he had given me Vicodin, this barely covered the pain.
If I got into a particular position I was in excruciating pain. This has greatly improved as my husband helped me wrap a wide ace around the tender area and I guess it took the swelling down along with the Advil and I can get around now, but the pain is still bad.
I can stand it now unless I sneeze or reach up or down with my left arm.
Then the screaming pain is back.
I’ve been off the Vicodin for 2 days, but have a great deal of trouble sleeping comfortably at night because of the burning pain.
I need to know how to speed this process up, or do something different to help.

My son got a bear hug from one of his buddies and now his lower rib on his left side hurts him considerably… He has trouble sleeping becasue he can not get comfortable and it stiffins him up and its been a month. He has no insurance and will not go to the doctors ( I am happy to pay) As the day progresses he does feel better, but not great. Is there something he can do…and what about not seeing a doctor?

I fell over and hit my rib cage on the leg of a chair. I find it hard to breathe and cough and it is rather uncomfortable trying to find a comfortable position in bed. I am an O.A.P. I realise that it will take time to heal soI am taking pain killers at the momen, can you suggest anything else that I can do please ?
