Bunion Surgery

(3 discussions)

I am developing bunions that make walking for long periods of time uncomfortable – not unbearable, just uncomfortable for now.
I do not like the way my feet look, and I considered having surgery, which would involve shaving off the protruding part of the bone.
If I do have that procedure done, my understanding is that the bones will still not be aligned, and will eventually protrude again.
Is this correct?

I have had both of my feet done… it’s very painful to recover and you need to be aware that you will be unable to do much of anything for a long period of time… I don’t recommend it. mine were very bad and could not find shoes wide enough – so it was inevitable – however – I have heard of chiro procedures to help with this alignment – check out every alternative before deciding on surgery. search the web for austin bunionectomy – you’ll find pics as to what the procedure is – not saying this is what you’ll have done – but you need to know that they do not “shave” your bone, they cut it – realign it – and screw it back together – do research!!! and goodluck!

The first thing I would recommend is you see a podiatrist and get x-rayed. Then the doctor will discuss the options with you. There are many different types of bunion procedures. People also have different needs and wants and different tolerances of discomfort. Generally speaking, while no surgeon can promise 100% successs 100% of the time, it would be inappropriate to perfom this surgery expecting it not to work.

Is surgery the only answer to realigning a foot that has a bunion. I am referring to someone who has had a bunion for a few years on both feet. Or can a foot brace, etc. worn overnight help?
