calcaneous bursitis

I have severe pain from hockey skates due to very active workouts.
The calcaneous bone is very, very tender and red.
I’ve been taking anti-inflammitories and icing when I can.
Is there any other recommendation to a speedy recovery and more importantly, what can I use/do about avoiding reoccurence. Thank you.–Bob

    My son is 13 and when he works out he says his heal will pop. There is no redness or pain or burning associated with the popping. What could be causing the popping?
