Car crash – Broken femur

(3 discussions)

Hi there wonder if u can help, I had a very bad car accident and broke various parts of my body which have repaired except my femur, they put a metal plate into my leg and a new bone is growing but not joinin up – each time I have been to the hospital there is no difference, they say ill need a bone graft soon if there is no improvement – the physiotherapist gave me a excersise to do to stimate the bone, (lying flat on my back and lifting my leg up straight and holding it, 3 times for 20 seconds) I’ve been doin this but I feel its not enough, can u recommend any other excercises I can do without causing more damage? many thanks

Well….bone growth is stimulated by adding resistance. Are you permited to use cuff weights while performing your straight leg raises? Check with your Dr. or PT and see if you can start using cuff weights. Good luck. Mya

:Sounds like you should have had internal intramedullary fixation (a rod put in which would have alligned the bones from the start). Get in touch with a better orthopedic doctor!!!!
