Cheilectomy and scar tissue

(2 discussions)

I have posted numerous articles following my surgery – apologies but am anxious for any info anyone can provide.
I was not too happy with the results of my surgery in December – still had no movement and pain.
My Consultant referred me for physio.
I am currently having physio and ultra-sound once a week which is resulting in limited movement but am still experiencing pain.
The physio seems to think I may regain more movement but will most probably always have pain. Regaining movement seems to be pointless if I am to be in pain as the pain stops me from using the joint!!
My physio seems to think there may be a build up of scar tissue preventing movement.
Can anything be done about this?
Can a second cheilectomy be performed to remove the scar tissue?
Also I still have a lump over the joint (should this have been removed with the first cheilectomy?).
Would love to hear from anyone who has maybe had similar problems.
Many thanks.

Is your joint cartilage intact? Or is there bone on bone pain? You may need an implant or fusion done. Or there is a newer type procedure done more recently using an external fixator (pins that extend outside the skin) which can distract or “stretch” the joint tissues, which appears to be having good results.

Same here. I am 11mos postop. Will try MUA in June. Wish I hadn’t had surgery. Always some level of pain during movement.
