I am a runner and a track and field coach… I have had to deal with chin splints for myself and for many of the young women and men I coach. Unfortunetly there is little you can do. Shin splints are basically when the tendons that hold the muscle to the bone pull away from the bone causing this pain. It is caused most often by either running on hard surfaces, or by your running shoes. Visit this web site and use the excersizes they have posted. You should also reduce your weekly mileage for about 6-8 weeks while you work on healing. Other advice: use ice only AFTER running, Buy your shoes from a specialty store that deals in running shoes, don’t use any air or shock shoes, DO THE EXERCISES ON THE SITE and AVOID RUNNING ON HARD SURFACES. http://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/0161.htm
I am a runner for my high school and I got chin splints. I stopped running for about 2 months and when I started again they weren’t as bad as before. Now that I’ve started running again… I can feel them coming back. What should I do to stop the pain when I run? I already have pills(they don’t work) and I ice them what else can I do?
HI I am writing to you from Dublin. I am looking for a private surgeon to help me. I need an operation around. THe muscles in my shins become inflamed when I exercise and I need the membrane in my shins to e slit. Can you please recommend a surgeonRegardsBrian McDermott
