Chronic head pain

(3 discussions)

My daughter is 2 yrs old. Has suffered with chronic head pain since the age 16. She has had numerous falls, accidents, concussions thru the years. EEG’s MRI’s and CAT scans have always been neg. She is bipolar and recently been put on disability. Now she is able to seek real medical treatment instead the county clinic. She saw a chiropractor and he eels something is out of whack in her c-1. Went for xrays yesterday and waiting for followup. Could neck being out of alignment really cause debilitating chronic head pain for all these years and dr’s not even consider it could be her neck? At 16 she was in a bad accident and “ate the steering wheel” she calls it. Sounds like that in itself could causef the injury this man describes. Has there been succesful relief head pain with chiropractic? All other options have been exhausted. Thank you.

Hey D, I’m no chiro but a well experienced patient. Yes, any structural misalignment results in a physical constriction (of muscles, blood vessels, nerves, etc), and these ‘cramps’ can easily remain forever and become progressively debilitating if not properly rehabbed. Thus, neck misalignments could surely cause chronic headaches. I have to admit I’m not surprised that a normal doctor might miss spinal misalignments. For chiros, please know that each chiro can be very different in terms of their practice and methodolody. One may do only physical manipulation, while another may include muscular massage or even energy work. I believe that the best treatment involves primarily muscular massage techniques with some physical manipulation (and maybe even energy). One chiro practice that basically does this is Rolfing. Hope this helps

Thank you so much for the response. Amy will soon go back for her follow up. What you said sure makes a lot of sense to me. Hopefully she will find some relief. I will post after her appointment. Thanks again:)
