clavicle fracture

(2 discussions)

My 17 year old daughter fractured her left clavicle in an auto accident 3 weeks ago. She is still in a fair amount of discomfort and her most recent xray shows the lateral end of the bone at approximately a 45 degree angle to the medial part. The bones appear to be at least 1/2 inch apart. The ortho doc says it is not that bad and he can’t get it any closer. I am certainly not an expert at reading xrays but it just doesn’t look right. She is a very talented high school ice hockey player and wants to start getting ready for her senior year as soon as possible. Any toughts or advice? Thanks

I can certainly feel for you. mine has healed but is seriously overlapping the other end. my shoulder is about an in narrower on that side of my body. its my left side and I am left handed too. I am seeking a sugeon that can offer a good fix and not just laying wait for it to heal abnormally.

My clavicle was also fractured in an auto accident. I had a steel plate inserted, and could use the arm quite normally within days! Mine was badly displaced, however…your surgeon may not advise this.
