coccyx pain

(9 discussions)

I woke up on december 28,1995 with pain in my tailbone. I have been to all kinds of specialist and had so many test ran and they look at me as if I am crazy. The pain has gotten worse over the years. I have taken every over the counter pain reliever I can think of. Handfulls at a time. This has caused alot of problems with my stomach. I can not stand for any length of time, I can not lay flat on my back or sit up straight without hurting severly. It takes everything I have to make it through the days. In 1996 I was having some female problems and the doctor told me that the best thing for me to do was have a histerectomy because that would take care of my tail bone pain. He said I had endemetriosis growing on that bone and it was causing the pain. So at 22 years old I decided I would rather get rid of the pain and deal with not being able to have anymore children. Well needless to say, It is now 2014 and I am a 28 year old single female with severe tailbone pain, a stomach full of ulcers from taking medicine to be able to deal with my tailbone pain. I am tired of hurting. I am not sure where to go now. If anyone can give me any advice, because none of my doctors will talk to me. My tailbone is completely turned around and they seem to think this is ok. Can someone give me advice on what to do or how to get them to listen to me?

Based on what I’ve read, I’d say you should have your coccyx removed. It might help a lot.

well I am 14 yrs old and I must say I have got this pain in my coccyx my dad doesnt believe that it is reli bad my mum does but I’m not sure if I should go to the doctors because listening to this makes me think they will say it is nothing! When I first had the pain I thought nothing of it! But now as it has got worse I can’t sit for very long or walk, I have to lye on my front and I feel the pain is taking over my life. I try to do things but I cant. So I have ended up stiking with the pain and having to cope. Not let the pain get to me although it does. But hopefully I will go to the doctor!

I have been having the same pain for about two years now. I am now 20 and have not done anything for it because my parents don’t think it is all that bad. I am sorry I don’t have any solutions for you. This is the first that I have looked into what the pain is and now I know that I am not the only one out there with this sort of pain. It has gotten so much worse because I have such a difficult time sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. I hope that you find a way to fix it and if you do could you give me some advice.
    Thanks

Igf any doctors read this please reply. I’m only 15 years old and I think I moved some kind of musle there. My mom said it happened to her but it went away I don’t believe her. this pain is hell and I don’t want any surgeries because it takes to long and its goign to be hard for me to go to skool having to be sitting down for 8 hours. I’m only 15 and I’m also embaresd to show my bum because I have strech makrs but what do they care I noe they will probly think of how ugly it looks for a 15 year old. Thats the reason why I am embaresed and don’t want to go to the doctor I really hate my strech makrs and the pain on my tailbone I hope wht my mom says is true.

I found a doctor that referred me to a physical therapist. They used ultrasound and heat and moved the tailbone back into a position where it wasn’t painful. It took 2 months, but I have been virtually pain free since. They also taught me some simple exercises and positions that help when it gets a little tender. I highly recommend requesting a physical therapy consult!

Pam, I too woke up one day unable to move, the pain was so intense I screamed. I went to the doctor and they thought since the pain was in my tailbone area and right side that it must be a kidney stone, it wasnt. They gave me pain killers that kept me going for a month, after I ran out I take advill which does nothing.. I can not stand to do dishes or my hair without the pain intensifing, if I try to go to the grocery store I am in so much pain within 20 minutes I can’t stand it, I use a heating pad dailey which helps till I try to move. If you find out anything please let me know. Thank you

Hi, I am a 38 year old female & about 4 months ago I began to experience severe spontaneous “tailbone” pain. I put quotes around tailbone, because I’m not so sure it is my tailbone. And yes, I too am now beginning to notice that the closer I get to menses, the worse my tailbone pain feels. I’ve been to several doctors, including an OBGYN. Apparently, I too have a “tilted” uterus. Also, on CT, for something unrelated, it looks like I have endometriosis. She seems to think the endometriosis is causing my pain. Apparently I have some that has found its way outside my uterus. And each month, since endometriosis feeds off of estrogen, when my estrogen fluctuates due to menses, the bits that are outside my uterus flare up & cause the pain. At least, thats her theory. She has suggested a low estrogen dose birth control…the “Depo Provera” shot. She seems to think that regulating my estrogen, would help regulate my pain. I haven’t started it yet, as I wanted to see how this month would go, also, I hate taking drugs/medicationunless absolutely necessary. But the pain is just as bad this month, if not worse, so I’m considering it. One things for sure, its VERY frustrating! Especially since I get the feeling the doctors don’t take my concerns/pain seriously. Sometimes the pain gets so bad that my legs feel numb. Mostly though, it tends to radiate into my left hip & down my left leg. And it is sometimes so bad that my leg feels like its on fire inside. I just hope and pray that its nothing serious, something the doctors are missing. I had a very rare bone tumor, different location and many years ago, so this tends to worry me a little. Mostly because the pain just spontaneously began. I just hope & pray that its not something serious If only the doctors would listen to me
