collarbone brace

(5 discussions)

I am interested in a heavily paddes collarbone brace. I used to have one but lost it during moving. I have scoliosis and found that while doing housework the brace offered enough support to reduce the amount of pain housework created.

On Monday, a decision will be made whether or not to repair my fractured clavicle which has not come back together in 6 months. The procedure will include a bone graft, screws, and plates. What are your thoughts on this operation? On average, are the outcomes positive?

: Did you have the surgery or did it heal on its own? I am 7 weeks into it and it doesn’t look like any bony material is bridging the gap between the bones. Please let me know how you made out. Thanks

My collarbone was severly broken 11 months ago. My Dr. put a plate and screws in place to bring the bones together. I healed fairly well except that the plate had bent some. I began physical theropy after about 3-4 months. 8 months after the original surgery, the plate broke in half, requiring a 2nd surgery. The Ortho did a bone graph and used the same type of plate as the 1st time, but this one was longer – requiring 10 screws instead of the original 6. It has now been 10 weeks after the 2nd surgery and my new plate is bent and no longer holding my collarbone in line with the bone graph material. My Ortho recommends that I have surgery again to put in a thicker plate! I really want my bone to heal properly, but when do I say I’ve had enough and just live with it?

I broke my clavical in 2 places last may, the breaks were pretty bad, and for about 3 or 4 months my bone was unnoticable. It has healed now but I can put my fist in the gap! It causes me discomfort and it rubs and pops when I lift weight, is there anything I cna do about this?
