Complete numbness/top of & foot & lower leg

(3 discussions)

Dr., I have complete numbness on the outside of my lower right leg and the complete top of my foot and toes (except the 5th, little, toe). This is the 6th day. I’ve used Vioxx, ice packs and the hot tub. Nothing works.
I’ve had no injury I can remember. BUT, I had weight loss surgery about ten months ago and have lost 170 lbs (now I’m 5’9″ and 164 lbs) I’ve been crossing my legs alot (like never before) and I’ve noticed the numbness starts from the point where the outside of my right calf rests against my left knee while crossed over the left knee. I also exercise quite a bit and started running on a regular basis about 3 months ago. Could that have anything to do with it. Anyway, I work insane hours and would just like to know if you think I need to see a chiropractor, wait it out a while, or just go staright to the ER! haha – Anyway, I would appreciate a response… Thank you in advance.

You need to have an exam, and probably x-rays/MRI studies done to pinpoint the source of your problems. The problem could be from a Lumbar disc, or from somewhere along the path of a nerve. You might also need to have a nerve conduction study done. These tests are best done and interpreted by an Othopedist, rather than a Chiropractor, which is what I suggested the Orthopedist: by the way, I have worked for both in the past. Go get an evaluation and diagnosis, and then we can go on from there. Don't waste time, go right away. Please let up know the diagnosis, and good luck.

DR.>Just wanted to say that I also am experiencing the same thing. went to my family doctor after a week of numbness. she said that it could be a nerve that was cut off too long making my leg stay numb longer than usual. It has now been a month and is the same. What should I do? : I am experiencing the same exact problem as what is described in this article please let me know of the diagnosis.: Thanks, : Paul Chrisman: :: : I have complete numbness on the outside of my lower right leg and the complete top of my foot and toes (except the 5th, little, toe).
