compression fracture of L1

My 17 year old daughter was in a car accident two days ago and has a compression fracture of L1.
We see an orthopedic doctor today and do not know the extent of her injuries yet.
She can walk and lift her legs.
What is the best position for her to be in?
Should she remain laying down or should she walk a little? Can it heal without surgery?

I have a compression fracture of L2. I was in an automobile accident and an MRI diagnosed this fracture. I am wearing a brace but still it pains. How long does it take to heal?
