Diabetic**Infected Big Toe nail Removed

Hi Vivian, My sister is a Diabetic. Underneath her Big toe nail, she had what she thought was a bruise that after 2 months began to ooze blood and puss. She then went to her doctor and he removed her toe nail.
It has been 1 day and there is blood showing through the bandage.
Is this normal for it to be bleeding after the nail removal? We are afraid that the infection may lead to gangrene or possible amputation. What do you recommend is the best way to treat the toe now that the nail has been removed?
Please advise.

I recently had my right foot’s big toe nail removed. First, to stop the bleeding keep the foot elevated. Excessive bleeding is not normal. And second, I was instructed to soak the toe twice a day in a pan of warm water and antibacterial soap.
