Dislocated Collarbone, AC Joint

(4 discussions)

Hi, I tore the ligaments in my right shoulder playing rugby which hold the collarbone down and now I have a big bump on my shoulder, it has also moved backwards and so I feel like im twisted. I would like to know what surgery is available as I have lost all power from my chest aswell now. I would like to know what is available, will I be able to play rugby again, do weights atc and also what the recovery time is from this. With surgery would it be plated or screwed etcMany thanks

I also recently have, did they just leave yours to re-attach. I am quite a keen rugby so does anyone have any advice to strengthen the area??

Hi, I had a type 1 ac seperation last july, and it still flares up all the time and it wont heal, and I hate to stop going to the gym, and I can’t afford physio, do you have any helpful hints, please, I am up all night unless I take ibuprophen to control the pain and I’m not one for taking pills unless I can’t take it any more.

First of all you are still messed up from last july. I have a type 3 seperation which occured in Feb this year playing hockey and I am now deployed to afghanistan rucking around and carrying 70 lb rucks up and down the mountains and haven’t needed medication at all. So why are you still using meds? You must have low tolerance of pain. But the only thing you need to do is some exercises. If you can get some of those stretch band or a low weight and do front arm raises as well as to the side. And for your rotator cuff lay on your side with a weight with the your elbow to your side and the weight towards the front of you curl it towards the floor and back up. That is what I got from the physical therapist before left. I am also back into the gym so there is no reason yours is still messed up unless you did something else to. Like I said I tore all 3 legiments and now I am fine but I rested as much as I could for the month before I deployed.

I am also looking for answers… my chiropractor has reset mine 3 times, taped it, and advised 6 weeks of non-use (which WILL drive me crazy!!!) during which my elbow must stay by my side and my hand may not raise above waist level nor extend past my side. The adjustments did remove the bump on my shoulder (which was the end of my collarbone)by putting it back in alignment. I also had x-rays taken to find out the degree of separation in my shoulder…will find out tomorrow what that means. Good luck!
