Drop Foot

(3 discussions)

I was in a very serious traffic accident on November 8, 2012.
My orthopedic surgeon said that when he operated on my pelvis/hip, he saw my sciatic nerve, and it was damaged but not torn or ripped.
I have a drop foot and am very concerned about its healing.
What can I do to help this along, if anything?
Any treatments, vitamins, what would be helpful.
They said that it might take a year or longer to heal, but I have horrible pins/needles in the foot, and sometimes severe pain.
The numbness seems to be wearing off, as it was my entire calf and now it is just partly in my foot.
The pins and needles seem to also have moved “up” to 1/2 of my foot instead of the whole foot.
Does this mean it’s healing?
I haven’t been able to find anyone who could tell me what treatment I should be following to help this along…Please help!

Your doctor should have been able to give you the most information about this. Nerve problems do take a long time to heal. You might want to get some further information from a neurologist.

I am in exactly the same type of situation that you are. I was in a car accident and my left thigh was injured by the support beam of my car. During surgery, Dr. Red Duke said that the sciatic nerve was not damaged, only badly contused. It is very frustrating to deal with a disability of this nature, especially with only being a 21 year old female. I would love to chat with you if you want… It would be great to talk with someone who is going through the same issues. My e-mail is [email protected]. Please feel free to write me. Thanks!
