foot numbness

(2 discussions)

I had disc surgery in april 96 for the L-4, L-5 and S-1 area. Although the surgery was successful, the herniated disc did damage to the nerve that affects my right foot. That area has always been numb( like a foot falling asleep) since the operation and I have lived with it. I recently joined a gym and have spent a lot of time on the treadmill and bike. The foot numbness has become worse from exercise although I have no back pain at all. I am not jogging on the treadmill but walking at a high speed. Is it possible that I may be having problems in the disc area that was previously operated

I am not an expert in this area, but one thought might be the muscles in the area are compressing the sciatic nerve. You really should discuss this with your physical therapist, chiropractor, surgeon or whoever.

I, Robert, feel like I am wearing crinkled socks… It feels like the underneath of my toes and the ball of my foot are swollen. What causes this?
