Foot support for major hike
Hi~I have just completed a triple arthodesis on my left ankle( x-ray image attached).
We are planning to do Machu Picchu in Peru in 2016 (about 14-18 months from now) So am interested in recommendations for the best support both for preparatory training and the hike itself.

First, you must give your foot time to heal. This is a major surgery. Second, hiking boots come in many shapes and styles. I am not an expert, but I recommend a site or magazine such as REI.com or Backpacker's Magazine for suggestions. You probably should wear a hight top boot. You might need additional ankle support, but that remains to be seen. I would suggest rehabing and building up leg strength with swimming and biking. Good luck.
