Foot Swelling for the past 5 or 6 years

(3 discussions)

Dear Doc, I’ve sprained my right ankle while playing basketball for about 5 or 6 years ago,the problem is i’m still experiencing some pain when I have a long walk or while playing basketball..sometimes it swells and I felt numbness when the weather is cold,it’s like some veins are twisted or something,i tried to have it x-rayed but the Doctor said that it is not advisable to do that,he just gave some pain killers and that’s it..also my ankle is quite bigger (swelling of bones?) than my left ankle.. Thank you so much and hoping to hear from you soon!

I’m sorry–the pain has been present about a year and a half, gets worse the longer I am on my feet; feels better with strong support, worse with minimum support.

You didn’t say if this pain came all of a sudden and how long you have had it. You also did not mention if there is any shoe that makes it better. I recommend you see a podiatrist and get an X-ray and exam. To see is to know, not to see is to guess. Good luck.
