FRACTURED 5TH METATARSAL

HI THERE I FRACTURED MY FIFTH METATARSAL ON THE 26TH SEPT 2014 NON DISPLACED IN CAST FOR 6 WKS, POST CAST PHYSIO. I STILL HAVE PAIN WHILE WALKING WAS TOLD IT STILL HAD A HAIRLINE CRACK POST CAST REMOVAL. I WAS JUST WONDERING HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN START RUNNING AND CYCLING PREVIOUSLY VERY ACTIVE AND WORK AS A PAramedic. LASTLY IS THERE ANY SUPPORTS OUT THERE AND ITS BEEN 4 MONTHS AND STILL PAIN ON THE SIDE OF THE FOOT IS THIS NORMAL.

I can not say anything for sure without examining your foot and seeing x-rays. First I would ask if you had posed these questions to your doctor.Having said all that, it is not un usual for a fracture to take many weeks and months to fully heal. It is a mistake to implay that a fracture is completely healed in everyone at 6 weeks. People all heal differently. Usually I will recommend returning to cycling or swimming before running, as it is less traumatic on the foot. You might want to consider wearing a sturdy lace up boot, such as a Redwing boot for support. Good luck and hang in there.

my fracture was non-displaced. It has been 5weeks now I’ve been in the walking cast for 4 1/2 weeks. sooo do I go with “if it hurts don’t do it?”
