Fractured Metatarsals

(2 discussions)

Two months ago I fractured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd metatarsals.
Cast was put on and after two months taken off even though the 1st metatarsal was still displaced and the other fractures had not completely healed.
The orthopedic doctor told me to start walking without the use of crutches.
It’s very painful and my foot stays severely swollen.
Why would this doctor want me to start walking when my foot is still broken?
I’m going to see another doctor but in the meantime I’m so confused as to the treatment I have received.
Should I be walking on this foot?

Audrey,Consult with a podiatrist not an orthopedic surgeon. The podiatrist will be able to analyze your biomechanics of your fracture. A? for you. My daughter dropped a plastic hairspray bottle on her foot. (the 17th of Sept.)I took her to urgent care because she cannot touch the first metatarsal bone she said it feels grindy and alot of pain. Dr. said hairline fracture on that metatarsal put her in a boot. Her primary dr. said everything is fine. My? isa week later she still cannot touch that toe but it is not swollen & maybe a little bruised but she can walk on it. But do not touch it. What do I do?
