Hammer Toe Surgery – Recovery Time

(2 discussions)

Both my smaller toes are hammer toes.
I’ve had them as long as I can remember and they are very pain.
I would like to have them fixed and would like to know how long is recovery from this type of surgery?

Have you already seen a doctor for this? The answer to your question depends on many factors such as age, health, procedure to be done, type of work you do, expectations etc. Without seeing you and examining your feet, I can only speculate. Unfortunately everyone expects to be healed in 6 weeks and that is not true for all patients.

In 2009, I had my first Hammer Toe Surgery and it was very successful. I had Hammer Toe Surguery on the other foot on 29th April 2013. In 2009, my the pins were removed after 8 weeks and now my new doctor wants to take the pins out on June 6, 2013 (4 weeks). I consulted with my the podiatrist from 2009, and he suggest that the pins should not come out b/4 8 weeks. I don’t want to agrue with my new doctor, but I am afraid if he takes the pins out too soon, my foot will not heal.
    Please advise.
