Heel pain
My 13 year old boy had Severe’s dis.
This is the 3rd year we have had to pull him out of sports and put his foot in a soft cast.
I am starting to wonder if we are doing the right thing.
Today the xray showed 4 hairline fractures in the growth plate of his heel and some on his ankle.
Please help.
He is an active child and loves sports so I will do anything to help him and I really do not want him to suffer later in life.

This condition usually is self limiting. When the growth plate closes at around age 14, then it usually subsides. When there is a continued problem, there may be other factors involved, such as a short achilles tendon. In addition to heel cushions, an orthotic may be needed. Since I have not seen him or the x-rays and taken comparision views of the other foot, I can not comment on the fractures. Rest may be the best thing at this point.
