heel spur relief

I have recently learned of an operation which bombards heel spurs with sound, similar to breaking up kidney stones. I have tried two podiatrists in my area and they are not familiar with the procedure. Please advise as these spurs are really painful and are negatively affecting my life! I have tried injections and anti-inflamatories with not much luck. I would like a permanent solution. Thank you for your help. I live in central New Jersey.

There is alot of interest about ESWT (Extra Corporeal Shock Wave therapy) Unfortunately it has not become the standard of care and insurance companies seem to want to dodge this issue, even though it is a non-invasive method. Many of those who have had this procedure have been part of a study (therefore get the treatment for free) or have paid out of pocket. The problem is lack of availability of the equipment at many locations. It may not matter that the doctor has heard of it but whether the machine is available and whether you want to pay out of pocket if your insurance won’t cover it.
