hip impingement

(7 discussions)

I have been diagnosed with a hip impingement and I was wondering if it can cause so much pain in my groin area. I was first told that I have a sports hernia and then later I had a hip impingement. I am so frustrated with my treatment and is it possible to rid of the pain? Is it possible to have both injuries a sports hernia and an impingement?

I have just recently delivered twins. As part of the procedure my doctor administered an epidural. Delivery took approximately 1 1/2 hours. The first twin was born sensoredlly and the second by emergency c-section due to low oxygen levels. After delivery I was on percacet (sp?). After a day or so I noticed that if I turned on my rght side in just the right position, it felt as though I had swallowed a needle. As time passed, the general edema went down and I reduced the pain killers, the pain became more noticable but not quite so severe. Through research and questions, it would appear I hyperextended the nerve while pulling back my legs during labor. The doctor said to be patient and see if it goes away. Now, the pain is quite intense if I accidently turn on to that side. How long can I expect this to last? Is there anything other than cortisone or steroid shots to treat such an injury? Message, adjustments? The numbness and pain radiate down from my upper hip to my mid thigh. The pain does not seem to have changed in intensity for the last three days.

DArcyI recently had surgery to correct hip impingment. I currently play two college sports and spent my last season with what we thought was a series of very painful groin sprains. After the season, I spent about a month resting my groin but when I tried to start jogging again I had as much pain as I had before resting it. I then consulted with an orth. who sent me to get MRI’s and x-rays to determine if I had a sports hernia. He found no hernia, but did find a small tear in the labral ligaments. He want me to get an injection for the pain and as a diagnosis tool but the pain management doctor refused to do an injection. At this point I got a second opinion. The new orthopedist thought I might have had hip impingment so he referred me to a specialist in new york. The specialist also thought I had impingent and scheduled me for surgery. I am only three weeks out, and I have had much less pain since the surgery than before it. I must suggest seeing a surgeon who specializes in hip arthroscopy and impingement to see if surgery can help. I will leave updates as I continue to recover.

I have been in pain for 1yr in jan 07, my gp thought that I had pulled a muscle whilst dancing on new years eve. I was diagnosed with hip impingement in September this year. The pain is excruciating!! I am on loads of painkillers and nothing seems to help apart from heat [which temporarily eases the groin pain somewhat]I saw my consultant on Thursday and he has now reccomended me for surgery but I have to have an MRI scan first and then there is a sixmonths waiting list. I have been off work for 5months aprox. and on crutches for 2 months. ILL let you know how I get on.

I just had my 3rd R hip Arthroscopy. My Labrum continues to tear. Turns out, the surgeon that did the 2 missed the growth on the femur…maybe could have taken care of this the 1st time?? I just had the 3rd 01-05-07. Still recovering from this. Pain is less, but now I have less ROM than I did before, locks more, can’t sit certain ways, etc.

Ijusthad hipdebridement for labaral tears and impingement, didn’t do the femur reshaping as I hadmorearthritisthan first thought. I am guessing Imay need resurfacing in the next 5 to 10 years. I also have had pattella tendonitis in r knee andthink that it isprobablly caused by the knee not tracking in the right spot causing stresses in the wrong area’s.cross train, proper orthodics and rehab the vmo.Ben

Lisa~ I am wondering who did your surgery. I am 24 and needing surgery for hip impingement and am wondering if you have any suggestions for questions/qualifications I should ask of my surgeon. Thanks.
