How long do you have to go to school

I have to do a research paper for school and I need to know how long you have to go to school to become a chiropracter?
It would also be helpful if you could tell me what type of classes you had to take and is it a indepth as what an MD would have to do? Thank you, Amanda

Amanda: Thank you for your interest in the chiropractic profession. I am currently a student at Logan College of Chiropractic and may be able to help with some questions on curriculum and prerequisite classes. The best way however is to go to http://www.logan.edu and browse the website. I am not sure about medical schools, but from what our instructors tell us we take most of the same classes with the exception of pharmacy and drug prescription classes. We only have one class that deals with some of the major drugs on the market such as the beta-blockers and other popular heart meds. Many other classes will talk about medical applications due to the fact that we will be seeing and co-managing patients who are on these meds. Also, chiropractic students spend much more time in class hours than MD’s do. MD’s do hospital rotations for at least one year I believe making the school six years. Chiropractic schools tend to offer school year round in trimesters to expedite a five-and-one-half-year program into three-and-one-thirds years or ten trimesters at least at Logan. Each trimester lasts for about three months and ranges in hours from 28 to 32 which is a lot but possible.
