hyper extended elbow

(2 discussions)

My daughter is 12years old and does competition cheerleading. She has been trying to do a back handspring and other flips and we went to a gym the other day and the instructor told her that she had a hyper extended elbow and that is why she was always bending her arm. He told us that she needed to exercises to strengthen the arm and elbow so that she would be able to stop bending her elbow when doing a back handspring. Can you give us any suggestions on exercises that she can do to strengthen the muscles in that arm?

We have a similar problem to one previously described He told us that she needed to exercises to strengthen the arm and elbow so that she would be able to stop bending her elbow when doing a back handspring. Our son is 7 yo and has an extended elbow resulting from a fracture a yr ago. He complains he’s afraid to use it (for cartwheels etc) because it might break and is uncomfortable for him to do some gymnastic moves. Is there specific weight training he could do to help support the hyper extension?
    Thank you

I’m 15 and I play lots of baseball. One day in gym class we were playing hockey and me and my friend fell, and he fell onto my elbow while I was face down. I kept playing but later that night I extended the elbow out fully and felt a sharp pain in the elbow. I thin it’s a hyper extension and is absoluley kills sometimes. I’m just wondering what I could do so its heals faster or something that could get me on the field quickers. thnks!
