hyperextended elbow–wrestler

My 10-year-old son hyperextended his elbow at wrestling practice last night. This morning he had trouble getting himself dressed. What is the recovery time for an injury like this? Should I take him to a doctor? He has a state meet in 12 days. Will he hurt himself more if he tries to compete?

If he hyperextended his elbow and he is having pain and difficutly moving this morning it’s a sure bet he strained, sprained or broke something. I would say, yes, take him to a doctor to get checked out and do not let him wrestle at this time as you will do him more harm than good. And use ice to help control pain and swelling.
