I need Help MYA PT!!!

(2 discussions)

Mya, I recently tore my LCL and I chose to go the non-operative route. I have been in therapy for 5 weeks now. My LCL is pretty strong, but everytime I try to jog, my knee gives way and it feels like the bones are rubbing against each other. There is alot of pain associated with this. Sometimes it will do it when I take a bad step. I don’t really have full range of motion back either. I can’t squat or pull my leg behind me to stretch the quads..are some examples. I am 17 years old and am very active in sports. What could be wrong? Is this the best I can do?P.S. It hurts to flex my muscles when straight, to stand alot or walk alot. It gets stiff if left in one pos. too long. Is that normal?

: P.S.: It hurts to flex my muscles when straight, to stand alot or walk alot. It gets stiff if left in one pos. too long. Is that normal?Hopefully, Mya will write with her opinion, but from my experience, you should be doing better after 5 weeks of post-injury rehab. The first thing we therapists do is to try to get the patients range-of-motion back to normal. Secondly, we work on getting the knee stabilizers stronger so your knee will feel more stable. Have you been going to a PT weekly? If not, then that is the problem. PTs and Certified Athletic Trainers have all sorts of modalities which can help speed up the healing of the LCL. I would advise you to follow up with your Orthopedist, so he can evaluate your progress and make recommendations if needed. Please let us know what your Orthopedist says, and good luck.

Scott… I go to PT 3 times a week, for about 2 hours each. I have an appt. with my Orthopedic Surgeon on the 21st. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks!!
