I recently, in fact a week today collapsed and fell heavily whilst doing so and since have suffered swelling and brusing to the centre of my chest, I was advised by doctors I had bruised my sturnum. My doctor advised he too had recieved the same injury from playing rugby and proscribed me strong pain medication and anti-imflamitries. I have been told that the pain and swelling will eventually heal itself and that I should not lift or do any heavy work for at least 2 months and that I will feel discomfort for at least 4 weeks but it will heal and there should be no long term issues.A complication with this injury is as you can not breathe deeply that you can develop and chest infection and this is to be treated with anti-biotics
