I’ve been to the podiatrist and orthopedic surgeon and really need some help..
This problem has been going on all my life. I am a 28 year old male. I have had more than a hundred ankle injuries, as well as other ones resulting from falling after a twisted ankle. My problem is that the arch in my feet is VERY high and my ankles very unstable. I can’t wear anything but high top basketball sneakers. I have been wearing custom made orthodics (from my podiatrist) for years, which has cut down (Ive sprained my ankle maybe 2 times but had many close calls) on the number of sprains but I still can’t wear other shoes with my ankles being very unstable. I also still can’t run hard because my ankles are wobbly. This has led to shin pain and knee pain when I run. This is very inconvenient since I regularly play sports. Is there anything I can do for this? If yes, how successful/risky is it? Thanks.

There are combination Ankle foot orthoses (AFO's) that would possibly be a better recommendation for your problem. Without seeing your particular foot, I can't say specifically. Some examples are a Ritchie brace, Sure Step, Arizona Ankle brace and others like it. You need to call around and ask if the doctor is familiar with any of these.

Have you tried exercises to strengthen your feet and ankles? Is it one ankle more than the other? What’s the difference in the length of your legs?

Yes I did some ankle exercises in physical therapy, plus at home. Both are the same, I guess and both my legs are the same size. It doesn’t help me that I am also tall and play a ton of basketball. : Have you tried exercises to strengthen your feet and ankles? Is it one ankle more than the other? Would these Ankle foot orthoses correct my problem to the point that it would be like I don’t have this problem? The custom made ones help but they are in no way a solution.

I’m sorry. It sounds very frustrating. Good luck. Don’t give up seeking information. Every bit is a piece to the puzzle.
